LEAGUE CUP JOY FOR CITY

EDINBURGH City manager Gary Jardine praised striker Robbie Ross after he hit a double to help book an East League Cup final spot.

Jardine said it was all the sweeter by knocking out local rivals and cup holders Spartans 3-1.

Ross got two of the three first half goals and the manager said: Thats 25 goals hes scored so far this season.

I think Robbie got two goals the last time we beat Spartans. Were all delighted with the result.

Jardine added: It must be three or four seasons since we beat Spartans and it was overdue.

Weve been under-achieving in the league but we got the taste of silver earlier in the season and were hoping we can win the league cup.

City went ahead after 25 minutes when Ross Guthrie unleashed a 30 yard shot and Ross got two more before the break, the first a far post header and then a great curling shot.

Gavin Malin pulled one back for Spartans with ten minutes left.

City will now meet Whitehill Welfare in the final after they beat Lothian Thistle 2-1.
