SFA CHALLENGE CUP final

SPARTANS retained the SFA Challenge Cup with a 3-1 over Gretna 2008 at Tynecastle on Thursday night.

The East Premier League champions were just too strong for the Gretna youngsters who put up a good fight. But they put up a great fight and scored a late goal after going three down.

THE final game of the season in the South of Scotland saw Crichton beat St Cuthbert Wanderers 3-0 at St Mary’s Park.

It was a disappointing end for the Kirkcudbright side after winning two cups at the weekend and they remain in third spot behind champions Threave Rovers and runnersup Dalbeattie Star.

Crichton took their chances Roman Soltys tapping in the first after 40 minutes. Two goals in the space of two minutes in the 75 and 77th minutes from Lee Malin and David Kennedy saw Crichton pick up the three points.

HAIG GORDON CUP FINAL

St Cuthbert Wanderers 2 Dalbeattie Star 1

ST Cuthbert Wanderers ended their run of five cup finals by lifting their second piece of silver on Monday night.

They beat Dalbeattie Star 2-1 to win the Haig Gordon Cup at St Mary’s Park thanks to an Adam Johnstone goal five minutes from time.

Earlier Dalbeattie missed two penalties, one from the South’s top scorer Scott Milligan which was saved by Sean Hutchison and the other from Grant Parker hit the upright and came out.

And in addition Star had the ball in the net in the 10th minute but the referee failed to see it before the ball came back out after hitting the staunchon.

Saints first goal came from Craig Rudd  in 60 minutes with Stuart Robinson equalising for Star.
